Korea-Philippines Teacher Exchange Programme Alumni Association (KPTEPAA) launched on April 7, 2020 through social media platforms the “KPTiran laban sa COVID-19”, a project which aimed to raise funds to provide disinfection supplies for the frontliners in public hospitals.

“KPTiran laban sa COVID-19” intended to spread bayanihan spiritamong the organization’s members in the time of crisis by collecting monetary donations.

“One great value that we, Filipinos hold dearly in this team that we can relate to the very purpose of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is this BAYANIHAN SPIRIT amongst us. Our country needs us now and we urgently need to act as one. Alam naming marami na ang tumutulong, ngunit higit na mas marami pa ang nangangailangan. Our hearts are joyful and willing to help,” said Danilo Osorio, President of KPTEPAA.

The project also encouraged KPTEPAA members to urge their families or colleagues to help in raising more funds to provide frontliners of public hospitals that have shortage of disinfection supplies.

Proceeds of this event will be used to purchase liquid hand soaps, sanitizers, and alcohols in an effort to extend aid to selected public hospitals in the NCR.

In order to raise funds, potential donor can transfer their donations through online banking transaction and G-Cash mobile application with accounts approved by the association.

This initiative of KPTEPAA is in connection with DepEd OM-OSEC-2020-004, Guidance to Regional Directors for Action on Requests by Local Government Units to Use DepEd Schools and Engage DepEd Personnel in Activities Related to Covid-19.

Despite the Enhanced Community Quarantine implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the KPTEPAA under the guidance of the International Cooperation Office headed by Director Margarita Consolacion Ballesteros was still able to conduct all meetings, discussions, and preparations for the project using social media.

The fund raising event started last April 7, 2020 and will run until April 24, 2020 while the turn-over of supplies will happen on April 21 and 28, 2020.

The KPTEPAA is an organization composed of Filipino exchange teachers who took part in the Korea-Philippines Teacher Exchange Programme, a project initiated by the Ministry of Education in Korea in coordination with the Department of Education in the Philippines under the framework of Asia Pacific Teacher Exchange for Global Education.

KPTEPAA members promote global citizenship and advocate the sustainable development goals.

“To develop and provide leadership in solving problems concerning global citizenship education and education for sustainable development and to work among people around the globe for broad support for education and for improved attitudes toward the profession,” said Osorio when asked about objectives of the organization.

Prior to KPTiran laban sa COVID-19, the KPTEPAA participated The One Dagat Away, a coastal clean-up drive on April 27, 2019 at Freedom Island LPPCHEA.

“Korea-Philippines Exchange Teachers will continue to make moves to save our Mother Earth,” said Junar Ogaya, a member of KPTEPAA.
